An explosive was found in Purmerend tonight in a park where a festival was going on at the time. Because the discovery was made outside the grounds of the dance festival Electronic Picnic in the Leeghwaterpark, the police did not have to stop the event. According to a spokesman, there was no danger to the thousands of visitors.
The find was made around 7:45 p.m. by festival security personnel. In addition to the police, the fire brigade and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service were called in to investigate the suspicious object. An ambulance was also called as a precaution.
The EOD secured and took the explosive later that evening. The police do not say what kind of explosive it is or how it ended up in the park.
