Two explosions that occurred on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday caused damage to the central conduit which transports natural gas from the south to the north of Iran, the country’s authorities announced, speaking of an act of “sabotage and terrorism”.
“This act of sabotage and terrorism took place at around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday on the national gas pipeline network in two provinces of the country,” Iranian Oil Minister Javad Ouzi said on state television.
“We expected such acts of sabotage around the anniversary of the Iranian Revolution (February 11) and quickly changed the settings of the transmission network to prevent the enemy’s goal of causing gas disruptions in large provinces,” he added.
But, as Ouzi pointed out, interruptions in supply natural gas have been noted in only a few villages, while he added that they would be restored within the day.
Fars, Isfahan, Saharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces were put on alert.
So far no one has claimed responsibility for the explosions.
Iran has repeatedly accused agents of Israel – Tehran’s sworn enemy – of carrying out acts of sabotage against the country’s infrastructure. In addition, separatist groups in the border areas of western and southern Iran have also taken responsibility for attacks.
