There is black smoke in the sky in Rockton, Illinois, USA: A major fire has broken out in a chemical factory. Numerous residents had to leave the area.
A fire in a chemical plant in the US state of Illinois triggered a large-scale fire service. Huge black clouds of smoke could be seen in pictures of the accident site. A real ball of fire broke out over the factory premises, and the column of smoke could still be seen in the distance.
The fire broke out on Monday morning for an unexplained cause in the plant in Rockton, northwest of Chicago, said the company Lubrizol. There were no injuries on the premises.
Local residents within a mile of the company were called to leave their homes, police said on Twitter. Local residents told CNN that they heard explosions that sounded like fireworks. Then they went outside to look. The sky filled with smoke very quickly, a man named Thomas Rollete told CNN.
