This Tuesday morning, many residents of New York had a rather violent awakening. Around 6 a.m., many rescuers had to move to the Roosevelt Island side.
The cause ? Numerous explosions have occurred in the sewers of this district of New York. The vibrations from these explosions were even felt in countless buildings in the Manhattan and Queens area. Following this, several power outages occurred but fortunately no fire broke out.
An hour after the explosions, the situation became calm again thanks to the efforts of firefighters and other rescuers.
Although the source of these explosions is still unknown, the American Geological Survey nevertheless detected a small earthquake of magnitude 1.7 around 5:45 a.m. in Astoria, north of Brooklyn. The link has not yet been confirmed by local authorities.
