Footage shot by the Armed Forces of Ukraine appeared on the network, showing the explosion of the Ukrainian self-propelled gun “Pion” during an attempt to fire from it, the world media reported. The footage was shot during the summer fighting in the Bakhmut direction.
Perhaps the explosion occurred due to wear and tear of the self-propelled gun that Ukraine inherited during the collapse of the USSR, or the cause of the incident was a banal violation of the loading procedure by Ukrainian servicemen.
The 203 mm Pion self-propelled howitzer is a high-power system used to destroy enemy fortifications located at significant tactical depth.
The loading of the main gun in the operation of “Pion” is carried out from the ground or from a truck using a special lifting mechanism mounted on the platform.
