Explosion of Electric Scooter Battery Causes 3-Hour Service Interruption on Line 2 of Madrid Metro

An event that occurred in one of the cars on line 2 of the Madrid Metro caused its service to be cut off for three hours this Tuesday afternoon. The affected section was the one that connects the Alsacia and Manuel Becerra stations, in both directions, and the reason for the interruption was the explosion of the battery of an electric scooter.

The explosion occurred at the La Elipa station shortly before 5:44 p.m., when service was interrupted due to the fire caused in the affected car and the intense smoke generated. According to suburban sources, firefighters and Metro personnel acted quickly, which prevented anyone from being poisoned or injured.

The fire, caused in the last car, forced firefighters to ventilate it, while the train remained stopped in the station.

The incident affected five stations on the red line: Alsacia, La Almudena, La Elipa, Ventas (with a link with Metro Line 5) and Manuel Becerra (with a link with Line 6, the circular one).
