The exploding heavy-duty vehicle at the customs office in Kazanlak was transporting diethyl ether, said senior inspector Mihail Mihov, head of the “Operational Center” group at the Regional Directorate “Fire Safety and Protection of the Population” in Stara Zagora.
No one was injured in the incident, the inspector confirmed.
Yesterday, at 8:40 p.m., a report of a loud noise and explosion in the area of the customs office in Kazanlak was reported to the Fire Department’s Operations Center. One fire truck was dispatched to the scene. The team found that one of the containers in which diethyl ether was being transported exploded in a truck. As a result, the roof part of the vehicle was destroyed, and a neighboring truck with Haskovo registration was affected.
In the late part of the day, around 1:00 a.m., a team was called from Plovdiv with specialized equipment for measuring the harmful substances in the air, in order to determine whether there is an explosive concentration or harmful substances that are spread in the air. It was established that everything is within normal limits and there is no danger to the population in the vicinity.
At the moment, the Regional Office in Kazanlak is conducting an inspection, an investigation is underway. There is still a fire engine on site on duty.
We remind you that the area of the incident has been cordoned off since last night. The customs office in Kazanlak is located in the immediate vicinity of the “Arsenal” AD weapons factory.
