The responsible police in Offenbach am Main reported that residents in Erlensee-Rückingen were woken up by a loud detonation at around 2 a.m. on Wednesday.
Unknown people had blown up an ATM in Taunusstrasse, as alerted police officers discovered shortly afterwards.
The explosion must have been very strong. Photos show a small, shattered building.

As a result of the force of the blast, “several cars parked in the immediate vicinity as well as the window pane of an adjacent senior citizens’ housing complex were damaged,” reported a spokesman.
It is currently unclear whether the perpetrators were also able to steal money. The criminal police have started the investigation.
“Apparently at least two dark-clad men fled in a dark vehicle at high speed on Autobahn 66 in the direction of Fulda,” added the police spokesman.
The damage caused is estimated at over 100,000 euros.
