The Swedish police have launched an investigation into a powerful explosion that occurred in the center of Stockholm in the Södermalm district, SVT reported today, January 17.
Reportedly, the explosive device went off at 03.28 local time at the entrance to one of the city’s restaurants. No one was hurt in the incident, but the house suffered significant damage.
“The entrance to the building is completely destroyed, the facade is also seriously damaged”, – said the representative of the Swedish police Ola Esterling.
The police launched a preliminary investigation into the incident. A detachment of sappers and forensic experts arrived at the scene to collect evidence. The surrounding area of the building was cordoned off. Law enforcement agencies have not yet established a connection between the incident and the recent spate of incidents in Stockholm.
SVT recalls that from the end of December to the beginning of January, several explosions took place near residential buildings in the Swedish capital.
