Antwerp
An explosive device damaged the front door of a house and a vehicle in Antwerp South on Tuesday evening. The police started an investigation.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. A loud bang startled the area around the Waterpoort in Antwerp South. “According to the initial findings, the explosion caused minor damage to the front door of a building in the street and to a car,” said police spokesperson Wouter Bruyns. No one was injured.
A police team that arrived on the scene spotted two suspects. “The chase was immediately started across the Quays,” says Bruyns. “The suspects eventually managed to escape and are being traced further.”
The judicial lab and demining service Dovo arrived on the scene. The police started an investigation. “All avenues are being investigated. The context and circumstances in which the facts took place are part of that further investigation,” Bruyns said.
Antwerp is regularly shocked by explosions, often linked to drug crime.
