No deaths or injuries have been reported.

– Parts of the weapons warehouse at the air force’s premises in Nea Anchialos are on fire, and an explosion has taken place, says Yannis Artopios, who is a spokesperson for the rescue service.

He says that seven planes and three helicopters contribute to the extinguishing work.

In several places in Greece, including Volos, forest fires have broken out as a result of the high temperatures in the country. It was a forest fire close to the weapons depot that triggered the explosion on Thursday.

The explosion could be heard several kilometers away from the weapons depot, and several houses in the area had their windows smashed, reports the state television channel ERT.

It is not known what kind of ammunition caught fire.
