30 people were injured
Eight people were killed and 30 were injured in a powerful explosion at a hotel in central Havana today. Rescuers are desperately searching for survivors in the rubble, AFP reported.
Shortly after 11 a.m., a cloud of dust and smoke rose from a five-star hotel in the Cuban capital after an explosion, probably caused by a gas leak, tore off large parts of the facade and smashed windows.

The Presidency confirmed the number of killed and wounded. Several cars near the hotel, known for welcoming celebrities such as Madonna and Beyonce, were destroyed.
Ambulances and five fire engines arrived at the scene, and police cordoned off the area and dispersed people who had gathered at the scene.
President Miguel Diaz-Canel, accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marero and National Assembly Speaker Esteban Lazo, arrived at the scene during the rescue operation.
