Explosion and Gunfire Reported Near Turkish Ministry of Interior in Ankara

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – An explosion and gunfire were heard near the headquarters of the Turkish Ministry of Interior in the capital, Ankara, on Sunday morning, according to the official Turkish Anatolia News Agency.

The agency stated, “Immediately upon hearing the sound of the explosion and gunfire, the security forces quickly headed to the area (Qizlai, central Ankara) and took extensive security measures.”

She continued: “Ataturk Street was closed to traffic due to the sound of the explosion, which was heard at a point also close to the Jankaya Gate of the Turkish Parliament… Special police forces, fire brigades, and health personnel also arrived in the area.”

The agency reported in an urgent video, quoting the Turkish Minister of the Interior, that “as a result of the shooting, two of our members were slightly injured,” noting that “two terrorists carried out an attack in a small commercial car in front of the entrance to the Public Security Directorate, and one of them blew himself up.”
