Exploring Venus: Cloud Cover, Acid Rain, and Mysterious Light Flashes Unraveled by Arizona State University Researchers

The planet Venus is completely enveloped in a cloud cover over twenty kilometers thick. From this deadly fog of carbon and sulfur dioxide, acid rain splashes down, while flashes of light often illuminate the clouds.

Earth’s neighbor has long fascinated astronomers, because while the planet’s surface is uninhabitable, the clouds may have life, and the many flashes of light are believed to be lightning.

Now a research team from Arizona State University has come up with an alternative explanation for the flashes of light, namely that they are not electrical discharges at all.
