Getting to know the Teatro de la Zarzuela, even in the areas where the public does not usually travel, and at the same time teaching the different tasks that come together to put on a zarzuela performance, are the objectives of the Escape room at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, a web game developed by the Daimieleño musician and computer engineer Carlos Alcázar.
The game is hosted on the website of the Madrid coliseum (and is the result of a commission that Alcázar received more than a year ago through its Músicaencriptada.es page, through which it provides services to schools interested in bringing music to his students.
Alcázar details that the game he has devised is similar to the graphic adventures that became popular in the 90s and in this case the user can tour the theater, “from the entrance hall to the orchestra pit with the mission of making possible so that the performance can begin. On his way he will go through public areas, such as the stalls or the boxes and others that only those who work in the building know, such as the dressing rooms, the back of the stage or the aforementioned pit.
Daimieleña adventure at the Teatro de la ZarzuelaThe game designer specifies that he began this task in July 2022 and to do so he took more than 1,500 photographs, so that the various scenarios in the game “faithfully reproduce the real scenarios of the theater.”
The game creation process included interviews with those responsible for the different departments of the Teatro de la Zarzuela, who provided numerous useful data for its development.
Regarding the gaming experience, Alcázar specified that the entire mission “can be completed in 30 or 45 minutes” and it is not necessary to have prior musical knowledge. Likewise, both children and adults can participate in the game and this will allow them to learn some fragments of famous zarzuelas.
