Nature filmmaker Cees van Kempen will now also be on stage with his wolf film. More than 70,000 visitors saw the nature documentary in the cinema last year. The film ‘WOLF’ follows the return of the animal from East Germany to the Netherlands. And from this week, Van Kempen will go into the theater with the story about the return of the wolf.

Endangered because of documentary

The filmmaker has been threatened in the past year because of the wolf documentary. For example, the presentation of the book accompanying the film was even canceled due to the threats against him. Van Kempen thinks it is a shame that the debate about the wolf in the Netherlands has become so polarized: ‘The discussion about the wolf is largely fueled by ignorance.

I want to do something about that. In a family show, for young and old, I take the visitor along in my adventures during the making of the film and show why wolves are not as dangerous as people think, what the surprising relationship is with the dog and how important the wolf is. is for nature.’

1000 days with the wolf

Cees van Kempen and his team spent four years in the forests of Germany and the Netherlands filming wolves. More than 1000 days in total. It is quite a job to film these shy animals in all stages of life. The main character in the film is Scout. A wolf who is filmed from his German nest until he reaches adulthood.

From the migration to the Veluwe to the moment that Scout has her own litter of puppies. WOLF has already won several international awards and has now been purchased by broadcasters from Germany to South Korea.

Return

Cees van Kempen previously made the TV series ‘The Return of’, with films about kingfisher, beaver and kestrel. His film about the new nature reserve the Marker Wadden was released in 2021. His films have been broadcast in more than 30 countries worldwide. Cees en de WOLF is his first theater production.
