The upcoming Star Wars Outlaws is of course highly anticipated for all Star Wars fans out there, and at the recent Comic-Con in San Diego, we got some new and exciting info about the game. The two locations identified so far are the Crescent Toshara and a certain familiar desert planet, Tatooine. Game director Julian Gerighty told us that Toshara was inspired by the African savannah, and that the planet was designed for Kay Vess to drive around with her flying car, so expect large open fields.
Gerighty sade: “We started with a biomeIt starts with, in this case, the southeastern African biome as inspiration, and then you twist it to make it feel a little bit alien. If you think about the first shot, maybe not the first shot, but the first shot on Tatooine. Beautiful, recognizable building, but with two suns. For us, it’s a huge mountain, and the amber forest carved into the mountain, the crystalline material is a city, these outcrops of orange, very reflective material. That’s why it brings out a truly alien essence. Familiar but fresh.
Lucasfilm’s Matt Martin explained that they follow an 80/20 rule when creating new locations, where 80% of them should feel familiar and the last 20% will feel strange. In the case of Toshara, inspiration from the African plains is familiar, while the moon and the Crystal City are the other twenty percent. They went on to tell us more about the familiar place Tatooine, and mentioned a certain bar that we were of course familiar with.
“It’s not just about rebuilding Tatooine. It’s about creating a place that has its own sense of history. If you close your eyes and let people choose to go anywhere on Tatooine? Mos Eisley. Specifically a watering hole in Mos Eisley. Chances are you can see all the nooks and crannies. You can see all the information that the Lucasfilm archives have to offer. This concept of virtual tours is important to us. If you’ve ever wondered how far you are from Water Farm to the Tavern? We’ve got you covered.”
In addition, we’ll also be able to visit the palace the hut Jabba calls home and take on missions for the famous character. You should also be able to betray him, which of course has consequences.
Star Wars Outlaws still doesn’t have a firm release date, just expect it to come out next year.If you want to read a longer interview with the game’s director at San Diego Comic-Con, you canit’s hereturn up.
