Reasons for gray hair│”Grey hair overnight” has a scientific basis! Studies in the United States have pointed out that stress can damage the melanocyte stem cells of hair color, leading to graying of hair, and the graying of hair may have a chance to be reversed in the early stage!

Reasons for gray hair│ Gray hair may not be due to aging? ! The latest research: gray hair may be reversible!
More and more medical studies have confirmed that psychological stress can also affect physiology, especially gray hair. However, for many years, the scientific community has not found out the reason, so the statement cannot be confirmed. The scientific community earlier attributed the cause of gray hair to natural aging and genetic factors. Stress is one of the causes of graying hair, according to the latest research, and “the damage is permanent”!
The University of Sao Paulo (USP) and Harvard University published a study in “Nature” (Nature), pointing out that stress can cause the release of “adrenaline” in the human body. Effects, and studies have also found that epinephrine can damage hair color melanin stem cells (McSCs), which in turn can lead to graying of hair.
In the research experiment, the researchers set the mice in the same environment and gave them different levels of stress, including mild pain, short-term pain, psychological stress and limited activity space, etc., to test the cause of stress leading to gray hair. The results of the study found that all of the above factors would lead to a significant reduction in McSCs, making their coats turn white. Professor Ya Cieh Hsu, study author at Harvard University, said:
We now know for sure that stress is responsible for this specific change in skin and hair, and how it works.
For this reason, the research team further explored its correlation and found that the main cause of hair graying was actually caused by the neurotransmitter “epinephrine” (Norepinephrine); the research team injected norepinephrine into mice under completely stress-free conditions, As a result, their coat color turns gray within a short period of time. The main physiological triggers for the release of “adrenaline” focus on stress, such as physical stimulation, excitement, noise, bright lights and high temperature environments.
According to the researchers, norepinephrine from the sympathetic nerves caused McSCs to “over-activate”, accelerating the consumption of melanin produced in the hair follicles, and this situation was irreversible. Only after the hair falls out and new hair grows, the melanin stem cells will become active again, giving birth to black hair. Professor Ya Cieh Hsu said that stress has been estimated to be harmful to the body in advance, but its impact is beyond one’s imagination.
After just a few days, all pigment-regenerating stem cells were lost. Once they’re gone, you can’t regenerate the pigment. This damage is permanent.
Another study found that gray hair caused by stress is not irreversible. As long as the stressor is removed, the hair has a chance to rejuvenate and return to its original color. But the researchers say that the natural graying of hair as we age has limited effect on reducing stress. Therefore, if you find that there are more gray hairs than before, you may try to reduce the stress and let the “new black hair” change the hair color back.
