2024-03-20, 17:00 Liepāja Central Scientific Library, e-reading room

Liepāja Central Scientific Library on March 20, 2024 at At 17.00 we invite you to a conversation with cultural history researcher Kristini Jākabson about where the people of Liepāja used to watch movies.

The meeting with Kristini Jākabsons starts a new series of events at the “City Stories” library. The cycle invites you to get to know Liepāja in all its diversity and (un)peace. Enthusiastic people from various fields – anthropologists, architects, linguists, historians and other experts and enthusiasts whose experience and research will offer, perhaps, a new point of view on city processes and events. The event will take place in the Grunta hall of the library/Zivju iela 7, 1st floor/.

The first known cinema screening in Liepāja took place in 1898. Since the 19th-20th centuries in the turn of the century, the boom of movie theaters in Liepāja began – there were a total of seven large and luxurious cinemas on Lielaja and Graudu streets alone, small cinema halls were also on the outskirts of the city.
