Exploring the Historic Underground Passages of London: From World War II to the Cold War

The 8,000 square meter underground passages are located in central London. During World War II, they also housed government offices, but were later used by the post office and the telecommunications company British Telecom. The tunnels were expanded during the Cold War period in the 1950s and were also used for a famous “hot line” between the leaders of the United States and the former Soviet Union.

However, due to the development of technology, the underground facilities became redundant and were closed in 1979.

The promoters of the initiative emphasize that the tunnels clearly show the atmosphere of the so-called “Cold War”, but with various additional options, it would be interesting for those looking for adventure and interesting places.

The planned project is ambitious and could cost about 253 million euros. The first visitors to the new tourist and entertainment facility could go as early as 2027.
