Exploring the Evolution of Artists’ Earnings: From CD Sales to Streaming Revenue

Artists need to open up the old box and think about what it was like in the past. Then they received 0 euros per listener. Of course there were occasionally lost lunatics who walked into the Free Record Shop and bought a CD, and when you really grew up you were on the radio (but what you got from BUMA/STEMRA was even more shocking than Spotify) but most people grabbed their MP3s from the internet and absolutely loved it.

Yes, you might get a euro per CD sold, but if you sell 3 a year, that’s not a lot of money either.

Now I’m not saying they shouldn’t get money, but I think it’s a good idea to consider what was there before and whether the current solution is better. Now they receive money per song listened to, previously only once per CD sold, regardless of whether it was played gray or never came out of the plastic.
