The war in Ukraine has now been going on for over a year and a half, more than 18 months – and an imminent end seems more unlikely than ever. The new book “On Wars and How to End Them – Ten Theses” by the Freiburg historian Jörn Leonhard is arousing curiosity in this situation simply because its title so boldly addresses the depressing hopelessness. Most people outside of Ukraine are likely to be satisfied at the moment if there is no major escalation, or in the worst case nuclear escalation.
