It was probably due to the large number of offers of all kinds and the weather that there were far fewer guests than expected. You were faced with something special, carefully compiled from the years 1900 and later. One heard what Lithuanian guests from that time experienced, recorded and poetically implemented during their studies in our country, on hikes and visits to best-known places. Appropriate songs and corresponding lyrics, supported by artful and soulful interpretations on the grand piano, formed an attractive whole.
Vilma Zbinden greeted in Lithuanian, one only had a vague idea of what it might be about. It was Daniel Zbinden who explained knowledgeably, showed who once stayed where, and put the thoughts into words. Lithuanian writers knew they had a close connection with Swiss. They summarized their impressions in a timely manner, enthusiastically, praising, praising – so that many in their own country would then hear this and perhaps go on a hike themselves and find themselves on the Uetliberg, at the Rhine Falls, the Jungfraujoch, in Lucerne, Bern, Zurich or to stop somewhere else and experience what had already been poetically formulated. The lyrics were of expressive songs with titles such as “All my wishes are silent” (Othmar Schoeck, 1886-1957); “The Stone Alp”, (Fabian Müller,*1964); “Burlesque” and “In Bad Weather” (Joachim Raff, 1822 – 1882); “From Lake Lucerne” (Hans Huber 1852 – 1921) is truly decorated. Ana Djordjevic sang and read with great devotion, slightly theatrical gestures and welcome care. The musical accompaniment was extremely convincing and characterized by great technical maturity. The texts were written by Maironis (1862 – 1932), Satrijos Ragana (1877 – 1930) and Salomèja Nèris (1904 – 1945).
Daniel Zbinden introduced the various writers, commented on their careers and the literary heritage, which received a lot of attention in Lithuania. Everyone was very close to their homeland. Be astonished and respectful when staying in Switzerland
a lot has been recorded and described. And so we found out how quiet and beautiful it used to be on the Rigi, what there was to see on the Uetliberg, how stormy the Rhine Falls roared, how many tourists were already in Lucerne back then (as the “land of light and harmony » praised) frolicked around. You heard about prosperity and peace, about delicious offers in shops – specifically ripe cherries – and the hustle and bustle on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse. There was also a dangerous mountain tour to the Jungfraujoch. This took you on a very special trip to Switzerland.
The well-intentioned applause was slightly disturbing; the announcement of an “applause order” at the beginning of the really meaningful encounter would have helped.
