Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Muslims celebrate, on the tenth day of Muharram in the Hijri calendar, the day of Ashura, amid a great difference in its rituals and rituals between the Sunnis who see Ashura as a day of joy, and among the Shiites who see it as a day of sadness .
For the Sunnis:
According to what was stated on the Al-Azhar website, one of “the most important events that occurred in the month of Muharram is that God Almighty saved Moses, peace be upon him, and the children of Israel from Pharaoh, and God destroyed Pharaoh and his soldiers, and that was on Ashura (the tenth of Muharram), as it was stated explicitly in what was narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them, that when the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, came to Medina, he found them fasting one day, meaning Ashura, and they said: This is a great day, and it is a day on which God saved Moses and drowned the family of Pharaoh. Moses from among them), so he fasted and commanded that he should fast.”
Among the Shiites:
The semi-official Iranian news agency (Fares) had previously published a report dealing with Khomeini’s thought regarding Ashura, saying: “In the beginning of the first Islam and after the journey of the last Prophet (may God bless him and his family and grant him peace) who built the foundations of justice and freedom, Islam is about to be erased and faded because of The deviations of the Umayyads, and he was about to be crushed under the feet of the oppressors and swallowed up by the tyrants, so the Master of Martyrs (peace be upon him) rushed to detonate the great revival of Ashura.
And she explained the reasons for the “Ashura renaissance” in Khomeini’s thought: “The government of Yazid and his oppressive henchmen are about to wipe out Islam, waste the exhausting efforts of the Prophet (may God bless him and his family and grant him peace), the efforts of the Muslims of early Islam and the blood of the martyrs, and throw them into oblivion, and do what would lead to All this is wasted in vain. The danger that Muawiyah and Yazid posed against Islam was not limited to their being usurpers of the caliphate. My tyrant took advantage of their position under the pretext that they are the successors of the Messenger of God (may God bless him and his family and grant him peace).. The Master of Martyrs (peace be upon him) moved with a few supporters and rebelled against Yazid, who was an arrogant ruler who headed a brutal and unjust government, pretending to be Muslim and taking advantage of his kinship and family ties Imam (peace be upon him), and he controlled the capabilities of a country without right.
And the Iranian agency added: “Therefore, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) revolted in his face with the lack of supporters, because he saw that his duty and his assignment required that, and he had to denounce what was happening, and forbid what was wrong. People gave a sermon in which he explained the reasons for the revolution, and he said: (O people, the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: Whoever sees an unjust, lawful ruler, God will forbid him to break his covenant, contrary to the Sunnah of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers be upon him and his family, working among the servants of God with sin and transgression. And there is no saying that God had a right to enter his entrance). (Whoever saw) means everyone who saw and experienced an unjust sultan who was characterized by these characteristics and remained silent before him, not opposing him with words or actions, for his fate and fate is the same as the fate and fate of that tyrannical sultan.
