How much matter is there in the universe – stars, planets, black holes and everything else? It’s a question astronomers have thought about a lot throughout history.
The answer is difficult to find in a universe that is still expanding, where we are constantly discovering new galaxies and phenomena, while scientists are trying to find out what dark matter and dark energy really are.
Therefore, space scientists use computer simulations to find out what the universe consists of and how it behaves, beyond what we can observe with space telescopes and measure with instruments.
