Exploring Television Consumption and Cultural Identity in Bucaramanga, Colombia

Summary

The present research is interested in investigating television consumption in Colombia, specifically in the city of Bucaramanga, to prepare a memory of television reception, where the vision that a group of subjects develops about a previous time is evident, in which there are ruptures (society has been transformed, for example: from rural to predominantly urban) and continuities (for example: the television medium continues to be a current communication technology). The research allows us to answer, then, the question about the way in which TV consumption practices are inserted in the dynamics of culture and what are the keys that the television screen puts on stage to become a cultural participant in the viewers. Why do research where the viewer’s experience is combined with its existence as cultural memory? To answer this question, it is necessary to briefly explain why it is communicatively important to think about this type of approach and from there, be able to establish that the mass media are related to the construction of contemporary cultural identity.
