Exploring Nature, Technology, and Military Defense: An Interview with Victoire Thierrée

Business to Follow is daily news from the cultural sector in the regions and internationally thanks to our correspondents abroad and to those who create cultural life where they are. And every Friday we go to the United States, to meet a resident of the Villa Albertine.

Today, Arnaud Laporte speaks with the sculptor, photographer and filmmaker, Victoire Thierrée who was, in 2020, the first artist invited by the École de Guerre, in Paris, to follow the training program for senior officers of the French armies as a civilian auditor. Penetrating communities and places usually closed and sensitive, the artist develops infiltration as an artistic practice. She explores the links between nature, form and technology, when used by man to overcome his limits in extreme contexts – military, defense and survival. As part of her roaming with the Villa Albertine, Victoire Thierrée will carry out experimental documentation work combining research carried out at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), the Smithsonian and the Getty Institute, interweaving archive images, stories and reflections, on the traces of the US Army’s first stealth aircraft, the F117.
