This article is part of the field of political philosophy of education and training (Blais et al., 2002/2013; Roelens, 2021a), and more particularly implements its central precept according to which understanding the transformations brought by the democratic project in all areas of human existence constitutes an essential prerequisite for then thinking about the recomposition of educational and training theories and practices in the same context. To do this, the study of the history and current affairs of liberal ideas constitutes a path as fruitful as it is, paradoxically, little taken in France as such. Our remarks thus follow in the wake of the analyzes of Brigitte Frelat-Kahn (1999, 2008), taking note of this point and wanting to go beyond it, but insisting in doing so on a certain number of tensions to be identified between republicanism, as a thought political and even more as an axiological basis of a philosophy of education and training…
