Exploring Job Opportunities in the Communication Sector for French Language Students

Talkshow: French language students choose communication as a profession

What are the job opportunities in the communication sector for French language students? And how do the qualities of each specialty complement each other? These questions found various answers during a special talk show on this profession considered dynamic, held on July 6 at the Institut francophone international.

Organized by the French department of the University of Languages ​​and International Studies (ULIS), in collaboration with the International Francophone Institute (IFI), the talkshow is dedicated to students of foreign languages, here in the language of Molière, who orient themselves towards the professions of communication.

The event welcomed three guests who were former students of ULIS and the University of Hanoi and who currently work in various organizations and companies specializing in the press and communication, namely: Doàn Thi Y Vi, editor deputy newspaper editor The Courier of Vietnam, under the Vietnamese News Agency (VNA); Nguyên Thùy Linh, journalist of the External Section of the Voice of Vietnam (VOV); and Phan Thi Hoài Nhân, communication and marketing officer at the travel agency Horizon Vietnam Travel.

Language and communication are on the list of the most interesting specialties for current students. Many foreign language students go into the communication sector. As part of this talkshow, the guests took the opportunity to look for competent ULIS students who would be interested in working in this sector considered to be dynamic.

From a difficult start to a promising career

Operating in different agencies, the three guests spoke about their beginnings which they consider as “a destiny”. “After leaving ULIS, I took part in the VNA job competition for its French-language newspaper, Le Courrier du Vietnam. At that time, the latter was still young and we had to work hard. Going through the vicissitudes, torn between joy and worry, this experience made me proud to be part of the history of our newspaper confided the deputy editor of the Vietnam courier.

For his part, Hoài Nhân encountered more difficulties at the start of his career, like other young graduates in times of COVID-19. “In my last year, I did my internship in a travel agency. But the pandemic is coming, destroying all my hopes in its path. I was unemployed when I left university”, recalled the young woman. “I decided to continue my studies and do a Master’s in Infocom at the IFI and it’s the best decision I’ve made and that I don’t regret”continued Hoài Nhân who has now become head of marketing for the travel agency Horizon Vietnam Travel.

Endowed with a sense of contact, dynamic, and ambitious, Thùy Linh shows a strong interest in communication. The girl passed various competitions, and exercised “in different professions sometimes as an intern”. It is “thanks to his experiences that Thùy Linh has succeeded in choosing the job that suits him best: journalist for the Voice of Vietnam.

Improving yourself: the key to success

Despite the first steps which were not always easy, the guests affirmed that with “Self-confidence”the determination to want to realize his dream”Sometimes “hopefully”we can “go to the end of the world. This profession of communication requires very strong skills, efforts to perfect oneself and an innovative spirit throughout one’s career. “Journalism is not at all easy, especially for female staff. But a strong passion and serious work will bring you success”said M.me And I saw.

Thuy Linh (1 .)releft) said she was “lucky” to be able to venture into the world of work early on since her university years, which helped her to accumulate rich professional experiences.

“In this competitive society where places are scarce, have as many diplomas as possible and develop skills, because that is what will make the difference in the job market”, according to Hoai Nhan. The latter offers post-graduate courses in communication that will be useful for foreign language students to gain more self-confidence.

Do not be afraid of challenges, do not hesitate to venture into this world of communication whatever your university specialty”, a affirmé Thuy Linh. “Come out of your shell and live great experiences in this area. It is by finding your identity that you will live your passion”.

Pursuing this idea, the representative of the Vietnam courier launched the 8e edition of the “Young Francophone Reporters 2023” competition. An annual event dedicated to young people aged 18 to 35 who want to get more involved in journalism. And who knows, this first challenge will allow some to have a career in the communication sector?
