In the United States, Halloween is a very popular holiday that is celebrated everywhere. It’s a real custom, unlike back home in France. In New York City this festival is celebrated every year and is worth the detour.

For thrill-seekers, if there’s one city you should visit during Halloween, it’s New York! The city honors this holiday through different events and places.

What is Halloween?

The tradition of Halloween was born 2,500 years ago in Ireland, in County Meath. Its origin would come from the Irish festival of Samhain, a festival of Celtic origin celebrating the transition from the clear summer season to winter.

The word Halloween is a contraction of the English “All Hallows’Eve” which in modern English means “All Hallows’Day”. In French, it is translated as “the vigil of all saints” or “the vigil of All Saints’ Day”. It is therefore an opportunity for Christians to celebrate all the saints.
