Exploring Bilateral Issues and Legal Challenges: Meeting Between Swiss and Liechtenstein Ministers in Bern

At the invitation of Justice Minister Graziella Marok-Wachter, she met with Federal Councilor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider in Bern today, Monday.

The focus of the working discussion was on bilateral issues in the area of ​​telecommunications surveillance and the recognition of divorce judgments in relation to the division of pension assets.

The issue of domestic violence and “marriage for all” was also discussed
discussed. In Switzerland, “marriage for all” was approved in a referendum in September 2021 and came into force on July 1, 2022. In Liechtenstein, the state parliament referred the motion to open marriage to everyone to the government in November last year. The government was instructed to submit a change to the law to the state parliament to open civil marriage to everyone, regardless of gender and sexual orientation. The government published a consultation report in July and is currently working on a submission to the state parliament. This should be discussed in the first reading in the first half of 2024.

During the meeting, legal issues arising from the current geopolitical challenges that affect Switzerland and Liechtenstein equally were discussed. The meeting took place in a friendly and trusting atmosphere.
