Exploring Best International Practices in Municipal Work: Field Visit to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Vienna

Muhammad Ali Al-Sharafa, Head of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, headed a delegation to a number of European cities aimed at exchanging experiences and learning about best international practices in the field of municipal work, urban and urban planning, and sustainable development in the cities of Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Vienna.
During the visit, ways to enhance cooperation and partnership were discussed, and they were introduced to urban development plans and the latest sustainable transportation solutions through meetings and gatherings with government agencies and the private sector.
The delegation met with officials in the municipality of Amsterdam, to learn about the most important plans and trends related to smart cities and sustainable mobility. The delegation also joined the field tour in the city of Copenhagen, organized by the Early Childhood Authority, during which it listened to an explanation about urban planning methodologies and its impact on the quality of living.
The visit witnessed a meeting between Muhammad Ali Al-Sharafa, Head of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, with officials from the Municipality of Helsinki, Finland, in addition to a visit by officials to Vienna, the Republic of Austria, which is one of the pioneering cities in humanizing cities through developing transportation systems and sustainable infrastructure.
On the sidelines of the visit, Mohammed Al-Sharafa, Head of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, said: Our wise leadership seeks to achieve sustainable development in all fields, which has made Abu Dhabi a pioneering model in the field of smart cities, as it ranked first as the smartest city in the Middle East and North Africa according to the IMD Smart Cities Index.
He added: “Through this visit, we seek to benefit from the leading expertise and experiences in the field of infrastructure, as the department relies in its aspirations and goals on clear foundations of innovating and building sustainable smart cities, and enhancing the ability of cities and communities to change and adapt, in order to maintain excellence.” “In providing services and ensuring prosperity for future generations.”
