The historic building that once housed the Bayard factories, then a branch of the Tonkin Clinic was completely redeveloped to become an EHPAD. Bayard Bel Âge was born where Bayard made his costumes. A brand that became famous thanks to its legendary advertisements “A Bayard, that changes you to a man… Isn’t that right Mr. Gainsbourg? »
In short, a Hospital Establishment for Dependent Elderly People… These establishments which hit the headlines after the publication of Victor Castanet’s book “The Gravediggers”. Three years of investigations to uncover a system that mistreats our elders.
If the investigation essentially highlights the excesses of the world leader in nursing homes and clinics, it is the entire ecosystem of support for seniors which has paid the price for this poor image.
Oméris Group: 17 EHPADs, including 10 around Lyon
The Oméris group, whose headquarters is located in Caluire, was created 30 years ago. It is now developing a network of 17 EHPADs. We met Elodie Rambert, the director of this family group.
“Initially, the controversy did not affect our establishment. The families did not see a link between our EHPADs and what was described in the book “The Gravediggers”. But the general population today has a negative opinion of EHPADs. Consequence: we open our establishment as much as possible to discover how it works and the work of professionals. »

Bayard Bel Age
Bayard Bel Âge is the name of the new establishment located in the Tonkin district. 90 beds in EHPADs, 14 in protected living units for people with Alzheimer’s disease, a center of activity and adapted care, but also numerous other facilities. As Mickaël Léo, the director of the establishment, explained to us.
“We have three types of rooms, different sizes. For all, a ceiling rail which allows secure transfer of residents if necessary. But this also helps limit the risk of workplace accidents for our caregivers. »
Apartments for people who can maintain their independence
The establishment also includes 9 apartments of 50 m2 outside the EHPAD framework for people who wish to maintain their independence. They are in a secure environment and can benefit from the establishment’s services if they wish.”

Léon Choel had to resolve to bring his mother into this EHPAD to cope with a loss of autonomy. After rehabilitation for a hip fracture, Cécile joined this brand new establishment.

It was after long reflection as a family that this decision was made. But Léon does not regret his choice…
“The quality of an EHPAD is very dependent on the staff. But the architecture and the setting are also very important for the residents, but also for the staff.”
The new EHPAD in Tonkin has some particularities. In particular, a home help, vehicle support and meal delivery service (La Compagnie de Louis). a wellness space, a multi-activity space for artistic, cultural expressions or conferences.
A Kosher floor also allows the Jewish community to benefit from the services of the EHPAD while respecting their religion.
