For the International Day of Archives of the Cathedral of Santiago have organized several open days to promote research, the culture and the memory that is hidden in the cathedral archive. From the June 5 to 9Therefore, those interested may access it through free guided tours.
These tours include an explanatory route through both the Archive and the Library, accessing the cataloging rooms, the bibliographic deposits, as well as the Chapter House and the Historical Library Capitulate.
However, the most expected of this visit will be to be able to see in person and for free the three great documents that are kept in the bowels of the Cathedral, such as the Calixtine Codex, a key document in the study of the Camino cult; he Tumbo A, an illustrated cartulary of the kings of Asturias, Galicia and León from the 12th and 13th centuries, and the Miranda’s Breviary, a liturgical manuscript of the s. XV.
The last stop is the Capitular Library with the exhibition A new archbishop in Santiago: Miguel Herrero y Esgueva. At the end of the route, visitors will receive a small souvenir gift.
To sign up for these visits, it is necessary to book in advance by calling the Cathedral Archive office or by email. There will be a limit of 15 people per group for routes that will last 60 minutes.
