This Sunday, April 14, we begin a series of reports on outdoor hotels in Tarn-et-Garonne. First stop at Molières where, despite its modest capacity of just under 30 pitches, the campsite nevertheless enjoys an ideal location close to the leisure center and the lake. An asset that makes it a popular place for families.
In these sunny spring days, Thierry Di Nardo is very busy. This employee of the Molières town hall has recently been the new manager of the municipal campsite. A radical career change for this fifty-year-old who was previously, and for almost 30 years, a salesman in the automotive sector. “I know the world of motorhomes well because I deal with them a lot,” he says. “I have been a motorhome driver for 25 years,” says Thierry. “And I am very handy, which is important because there is always something to maintain or repair,” he explains.
Today, the man is indeed busy doing a little gardening. “I am in the process of replanting shrubs. Some hedges have become damaged, there are holes, so they had to be filled in.” A task that he was able to carry out thanks to the help of a municipal colleague who provided him with the cultivated cuttings.
After this operation, the employee planned to mow each of the 24 locations. “We have to clean the plots before customers arrive. The campsite reopened last weekend but the first reservations start next week,” he reveals. In addition to the 20 bare pitches, 4 special motorhome pitches are offered to customers as well as 6 mobile homes. Two of them are in fact reserved for these school holidays.
Advance reservations for mobile homes not for pitches
“The mobile homes are filling up well. For the month of May when there are a lot of bridges, there are already many reservations. In June, there are several weddings in the area, they are also rented to accommodate the guests,” he said. In order to welcome customers in good conditions, Thierry Di Nardo spent a lot of time in these small holiday accommodations. “Some had railings that were tired, I had to replace several parts. And for the two oldest, I had to redo the wooden terraces which were too damaged,” he says.
Now, he still has a little painting to do and the mobile homes will be ready to receive their new guests. During the week, an electrician will also come to ensure that all locations have functional access to electricity.
Once all these tasks have been accomplished, the manager will be able to devote himself to welcoming and managing reservations, a mission which will increase in importance as we get closer to the summer season. “We are a small campsite here, customers of bare pitches or camper vans make few reservations. They go from day to day, and see if there is space available. Otherwise, they will look elsewhere. camping, there are still quite a few in the department”, he estimates.
The proximity of this outdoor establishment to the lake and the adjoining leisure center, also municipal, make it a very popular place for vacationers. “We operate very well locally and our clientele is very family-oriented,” notes the mayor of the town, Valérie Hebral. The councilor now wishes to develop its attraction a little more at the regional level and why even, nationally, while maintaining “sustainable tourism, oriented towards nature”, she specifies. With its lake and its Blue Flag and Green Station approved leisure center, the conditions are in any case met to achieve this.
