The Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) has attached conditions to coalition negotiations with the CDU and SPD in Thuringia. The expanded BSW state board unanimously approved an exploratory paper negotiated by the three parties, which is intended to form the basis for further discussions. However, several federal policy points should be given greater consideration in the future.
Specifically, according to state chairman Steffen Schütz, it is about calling for more diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine and rejecting the stationing of US medium-range missiles in Germany. He is confident that there will be an agreement.
The “signal is currently yellow,” said co-country chief Katja Wolf. Without clarity on the peace issue, there will be no entry into coalition negotiations. The CDU and SPD will be asked to renegotiate as quickly as possible. At the same time, Wolf emphasized the will to negotiate coalitions with the CDU and SPD.
BSW wants a preamble for a possible coalition agreement
The BSW now wants to present the CDU and SPD with a wording proposal for a passage in the preamble of a possible coalition agreement. CDU state leader Mario Voigt agreed to talks about it and was also “optimistic”. What is particularly important is the agreement reached on the exploratory paper, in which there was agreement and “clearness” on Thuringian issues. At the same time, Voigt admitted that some in the CDU had concerns about the role of BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht “and her federal political perspective.”
BSW co-state boss Wolf, however, denied that Wagenknecht influenced the state association’s decision. However, they are “of course” in close contact with the federal party, especially regarding the “peace question”. Wagenknecht had previously irritated people with his claim that he wanted to personally intervene in explorations and coalition negotiations in the federal states.
