Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The development of Covid-19 infections in Singapore has again shown an increase. Wednesday (13/10/2021) the Lion Country reported 3,190 new cases of corona infection accompanied by nine deaths.
This figure increased when compared to the previous day where Singapore reported 2,976 cases. However, this is not as high as the previous record, which had penetrated above 3,700 cases, last October 9.
With this addition, there are currently a total of 27,132 active cases in the city-state. The total number of Covid-19 cases since the pandemic hit has reached 135,395 cases with 192 deaths.
The infection rate itself is still predicted to rise. The co-chair of the Covid-19 multi-ministerial task force (MTF) Gan Kim Yong even predicts the number of cases could reach five thousand in a day.
“And depending on how the pace will develop, we may start to see the daily number of infections rise to more than 5,000 in the next few weeks,” he said earlier this month. Channel News Asia.
Even so, the ASEAN financial center continues to take the policy to open entry routes without quarantine. The entrance, called the vaccinated travel lane (VTL), is so far reserved for foreign tourists from eight countries, namely Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, England and the United States (US).
This policy was taken when Singapore had injected 85.1% of its population with a full dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
“All eight countries are already open to tourists from Singapore. So VTL will restore quarantine -free two -way travel between Singapore and them,” said Communications Minister S Iswaran.
Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded new cases yesterday which was lower than Singapore’s 1,233. But the new death rate is still high at 48 people.
The current number of active cases is 20,551. Since the pandemic struck, a total of 4.2 million people have been infected and caused 142,811 deaths.
