Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian capital market industry has had a windfall during the COVID-19 pandemic. This situation has become a momentum to increase the number of investors in the capital market.
Two years earlier, around the beginning of 2017, the number of capital market investors in Indonesia was recorded at only 1 million investors. But by the end of 2021, that number had almost quadrupled.
This is a separate note for the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority, Wimboh Santoso, witnessing the rapid growth of investors in the Indonesian capital market in 2021.
As of December 29, 2021, it has increased 92.7 percent to 7.48 million investors from the previous 3.88 million investors as of the end of December 2020.
“This number has increased almost 7 times compared to 2017,” said Wimboh, at the closing ceremony of stock trading on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, Thursday (12/30/2021).
Interestingly, the growth of capital market investors is dominated by millennials or those under the age of 30 at 59.81%.
Wimboh said that the increase in the number of capital market investors could not be separated from the efforts of the IDX and the OJK who intensively carried out socialization, education, and literacy to the public.
Apart from investor growth, in terms of other capital market indicators, this year’s Composite Stock Price Index (JCI) broke a record high on November 22, 2021, to be precise at the level of 6,723.39.
In addition, the average daily transaction value on the IDX increased by more than 46% to Rp 13.51 trillion from the position at the end of December 2020 which was Rp. 9.2 trillion.
As of December 10, there were 51 new issuers listed on the IDX with raised funds of Rp 62.18 trillion.
Wimboh also said that the total fundraising in the Indonesian capital market had increased significantly. It was recorded that the total value of securities issuance as of December 10, 2021 on the IDX reached Rp. 338.11 trillion, an increase of 184.84% from the position at the end of December of Rp. 118.7 trillion.
