Over the weekend, Capitol Hill was rocked by the release of an explicit video of two men having sex in a congressional hearing room, Time magazine reported.
The eight-second pornographic clip, first published on December 16 by the right-wing media website Daily Caller, was leaked from a private group chat for gay men in politics. The report, which does not name the participants and blurs out one person who appears in the video, alleges that the sex tape involved a congressional staffer and identified the setting as Room 216 in the Hart Senate Office Building.
Conservative British magazine The Spectator reported hours earlier that an unnamed staffer for Senator Ben Cardin had publicly shared a series of indecent photos and videos of himself engaging in sexual acts in the “so-called hallowed halls of Congress”. The description of one of the photos in particular resembles the video later shared by the Daily Caller.
The news immediately gained traction in the conservative media. Although details remain scarce, U.S. media have identified the official as Aidan Maze-Ceropsky, Cardin’s legislative aide.
In a statement, Cardin’s office said, “Aiden Maze-Ceropsky is no longer an employee of the United States Senate.” It added: “We will have no further comment on this personnel matter.”
Cardin, who has spent nearly four decades in Congress, announced in May his plans to retire next year.
Maze-Ceropski, who is believed to be 24, posted a statement on LinkedIn: “This was a difficult time for me as I was attacked because of my sexual orientation in order to pursue a certain political narrative. Although some of the actions I have been shown poor judgment in the past, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace. Any attempts to characterize my actions otherwise are fabricated and I will explore what legal options I have in these matters.”
Republican Max Miller accused Maze-Ceropsky of attacking him, shouting “Free Palestine!” while Miller was giving an interview. Maze-Ceropski denied this allegation.
Recently suspended Congressman George Santos responded to Maze-Ceropski’s statement by posting in X: “Having sex in a United States government building and filming it is why you get attacked by the media. Being gay and having gay sex, NOBODY cares…”
In response to reports that the indecent act took place where Senator Amy Klobuchar. sits in the hearing room in question — a room that also hosted the committee’s 9/11 hearings 20 years ago, former FBI Director James Comey’s historic testimony against Donald Trump in 2017, and several confirmation hearings of Supreme Court nominees including Sonia Sotomayor and Brett Cavanaugh – Rep. Mike Collins posted a photo of cleaning wipes at a grocery store with the caption “Christmas shopping for Sen. Klobuchar.”
