Explaining the Issue with Honda Scooter’s eSAF Frame: Response from Astra Honda Motor (AHM)

Jakarta

The Honda scooter’s eSAF (enhanced Smart Architecture Frame) frame was not only rocked by rust issues, but also porous issues which broke the frame in the middle. What is the explanation of Astra Honda Motor (AHM) as the manufacturer?

Honda’s scooter frame with eSAF technology is currently the talk of the automotive world. There is a lot of discussion about the eSAF, because there are lots of videos circulating on social media of Honda scooters with narratives of rusty frames, even breaking in the middle.

Astra Honda Motor (AHM) Corporate Communication General Manager Ahmad Muhibbuddin said, regarding the issue of a broken eSAF frame, his party would carry out further investigations. Because it is necessary to know in advance the history and condition of the motorbike.

“If there are complaints regarding a broken frame, we have to check what happened, what the conditions were like. So we can’t be sure yet, because we have to study it first and see first hand. What happened, the chronology, and what the motorbike was used for, and so on,” said Muhib to reporters at the Astra Honda Motor Safety Riding Park & Training Center in Cikarang, Bekasi, Wednesday (23/8/2023).

“So we can’t judge yet that the motorbike broke for some reason. We have to be careful what the reason is,” continued Muhib.

Meanwhile, it is related to rust-like stains on the eSAF frame, Muhib said that it was not rust, but yellow stains on the silicate layer. The coating is harmless and is said to be a normal thing.

“In the market there are yellow spots found on Honda motorbikes. There are some consumers who find, we want to convey, that these spots are actually not rust, but a layer of silicate which is harmless and does not cause porous,” explained Muhib.

“This layer has the function of coating the results of welding and can also prevent oxidation. This is a normal thing and is not dangerous. Honda motorbike owners need not worry because it is not rust and does not affect comfort and safety, for new motorbikes,” he continued.

“If there are complaints about Honda motorcycles, we advise consumers not to hesitate to visit our AHASS network. We will conduct an inspection directly. We will handle them quickly,” he said.
