The new Minister of Health, Cesar Vásquez, confesses what his predecessor Rosa Gutiérrez irresponsibly wanted to hide: the loss of thousands of doses of Pfizer vaccines. The following report from ContraCorriente sheds light on something much more serious, that some Peruvians would have received doses of expired vaccines.

“When the vaccines expire and they tell the boss that she tells them that we had to solve and find a way, that we had to find a way to make that batch disappear that such a large amount could not be lost”says one of the nurses, under the pseudonym ‘Paola’, who works at the Pediatric Emergency Hospital.

The licensed head nurse you are referring to is Bernadette Buscal Mogollona former employee of the Pediatric Emergency Hospital, appointed head in this management. According to the informants, it would have been she, in coordination with the hospital director, who devised, as a strategy to get rid of expired vaccines, a special day.

“On Saturday, March 25, the vaccines were applied, the vaccines were taken away and people received a vaccination card for expired vaccines”added ‘Paola’.

With these posters and in coordination with the Municipality of Lima the solidarity health campaign was planned in Huaycán on Saturday March 25. On the poster you can read among other services offered: regular vaccination for adults and children. The night before, the concerned nurses contacted their boss, Bernardita Buscal Mogollón, via WhatsApp.

CONVERSATION BY WHATSAPP

Voice 1: Bernadette: Lic. Good evening, take the bivalent vaccines tomorrow. Its coverage is expanding, it takes all and uses loss factor. Take 20 vials of each one, there will be 4 vaccinators. Don’t forget the syringes. Luck.

Voice 2: Good evening, the document is up to March 13 because they are thawed vaccines, it cannot be placed after that date.

The document to which the nurse refers is this “Delivery Act” to which ContraCorriente had exclusive access. Number 384 20 22, here you can read how 200 vials containing the bivalent vaccine against COVID corresponding to batch Gj5106 were delivered by Diris to the Pediatric Emergency Hospital.

The delivery condition specifies, in addition to temperature changes, its duration: the delivery date is set on January 2, 2023, and the expiration date is March 13. By March 24, the day of coordination by WhatsApp, the vaccines were already expired. But apparently the head nurse had an order that they be applied.

As good nurses who worked in the hospital, they refused and the administration would have hired external vaccinators to continue with the campaign that was carried out on Saturday, March 25 in Huaycán

In the official and original register, to which we had access, it can be read that the batch of vaccine applied on the day coincides with the batch reported by the nurses, for being expired, the GJ5106. The loss factor was applied, recommended by the graduate Bernadette. In other words, 8 vials were used with which 48 people could have been vaccinated, but only 8 vaccinated people appear in the register.
