Expired meat in the refrigerator. Closure and fine of 2 thousand euros

Local police in action for consumer protection and the fight against illegal work.

Yesterday at 2.30 pm the agents of the ration office carried out a check in a bar in the San Carlo district. And inside the kitchens the presence of smelly material and evident signs of decomposition emerged. In fact, there were packages of expired meat in the refrigerators. Inspectors from the health protection agency were immediately called to the scene and ordered the closure of the business due to hygiene violations and failure to comply with food preservation procedures. Among the employees, a foreign worker “under the table” was also identified, who was later found to be awaiting political asylum. The restaurant will remain closed until correct health and hygiene management is restored with the destruction of food that is no longer usable. The financial penalties amount to approximately 2,000 euros. For the “illegal” worker, the bar owner will be reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. A second intervention brought the police to the market. The Community Service Unit carried out an inspection of the fruit and vegetable stalls in Via Pellettier. Here it emerged that a foreign worker did not have an employment contract. His employer was asked for his timely regularisation.

The owner of another food bank was fined 160 euros because the equipment used for food was dirty.
