(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kwon Hee-won and Hong Jun-seok = Experts say that the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) vaccination will begin next month, but we must continue to maintain and comply with quarantine rules such as wearing a mask or’social distancing’. Collected.

On the 28th, the’Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team’, including the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, participated in the vaccination plan.

The vaccine will be given in the following order, starting with Corona 19 medical staff in the following month, residents and workers such as nursing hospitals in the first quarter, seniors aged 65 or older in the second quarter, and adults aged 19-64 in the third quarter. It aims to complete the first vaccination for all citizens by September and to form collective immunity by November.

As the vaccination plan comes out, some voices are voiced with hope that the mask will be removed soon, but infectious disease experts stressed that the mask should be worn and distanced before the formation of collective immunity.

“Vaccines do not prevent 100% of Corona 19,” said Chun Byung-cheol, a professor of preventive medicine at Korea University, in a call with Yonhap News on the day. “Because there is still a risk of infection in the community, we must continue to follow hygiene rules such as wearing a mask.”

Prof. Chun pointed out, “In the community, the actual vaccination is often less effective than in clinical trials. It is unclear what other mutant viruses may appear, and whether those who received the vaccine will continue to have antibodies.” did.

He also said, “There are few vaccines that do not have adverse reactions,” he advised. “It is necessary to actively monitor adverse reactions and disclose (related information) transparently to the public in order for the public to receive the vaccine safely.”

Nam-jung Kim, professor of infectious medicine at Seoul National University Hospital, took the same position.

Professor Kim emphasized the necessity of wearing a mask, saying, “It takes a long time for a large number of vaccines to get hit, but it cannot be said that the spread of the local community will definitely decrease in the meantime.”

He said, “If group immunity is formed after November, you may not need to wear a mask,” he said. “There is a possibility that the vaccination rate may be lower than expected because of concerns that there may be unexpected side effects.”

The government also predicted that the Corona 19 situation will not end in a short time even if vaccination begins.

In a briefing, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) chief said, “Currently, even in countries with a relatively high vaccination rate, the incidence of new confirmed cases and deaths is not decreasing.”

“If we don’t thoroughly respond to quarantine, it can happen enough for us,” Chung said. “It is time to keep the basic principles of quarantine in order to curb the current 3rd outbreak and end (Corona 19).”
