Experts Talk About Jokowi’s Plan to Ukraine Similar to Suharto’s Moment to Bosnia

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will visit Kiev, Ukraine, on his European tour starting from Germany. Jokowi’s visit to Ukraine is considered similar to when the second Indonesian President, Suharto, visited Sarajevo, Bosnia, which was also hit by war.

“This is similar to Suharto’s visit to Sarajevo, Bosnia, in March 1995, I hope everything is safe and successful,” said Director of The Indonesia Intelligence Institute Ridlwan Habib in his statement, Sunday (26/6/2022).

Ridlwan Habib assesses the steps Jokowi bolder than the President of the United States, Joe Biden. According to him, Joe Biden only commented from afar.

“Jokowi is braver than Joe Biden, because Biden can only comment from afar, while Jokowi comes directly to meet the two warring parties,” he said.

The UI intelligence expert also added that Jokowi’s move was very strategic in the midst of global uncertainty. “The world is threatened with an energy crisis and a food crisis because of the wars between Ukraine and Russia. Jokowi’s move to meet the leaders of the two countries is truly awaited by the world public,” said Ridlwan.
