Case acute hepatitis mysterious or acute hepatitis of unknown aetiology in children continues. Therefore, parents are asked to be aware of the symptoms of hepatitis in their children. To educate parents about the symptoms of acute hepatitis, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health warning on Tuesday (10/5).
“Hearing about severe liver disease in children can be worrying. If you have questions about your child’s health, contact your child’s healthcare provider,” the CDC quoted the CDC as saying. ABCMonday (16/5/2022).
The CDC adds that parents should be aware of symptoms associated with liver inflammation, including fever, fatigue, nausea, and jaundice, which is marked yellowing of the skin and eyes.
Hepatitis means liver inflammation. It can be caused by heavy alcohol use, toxins, some medications, medical conditions and is often caused by a virus, according to the CDC.
Here are five things to know about the CDC warning about acute hepatitis in children:
Global
In April, researchers in the United States and Europe announced that they were investigating a small group of emerging cases around the world.
As of this week, the World Health Organization (WHO) said more than 340 possible cases of hepatitis in children had been reported in 20 countries. In the US, there are at least 109 cases hepatitis confirmed acute disease with five deaths in more than 25 states and Puerto Rico, according to the CDC.
The cause of reported cases of hepatitis in children in the US remains unknown, according to the CDC.
“We do not know and are investigating what role other factors play in this disease, such as exposure to toxins or other infections that children may have.,” the agency wrote in its latest health warning.
The CDC also added that the cause of cases of hepatitis in children is still unknown is unusual.
Some children who have hepatitis also have adenovirus type 41, a type of virus that can cause severe stomach ailments in children, according to the CDC.
Adenoviruses are different types of viruses that can cause illness ranging from the common cold to acute bronchitis, pneumonia, pink eye and acute gastroenteritis, or stomach ulcers.
Hepatitis Vaccine Doesn’t Protect Against This Outbreak
Viral hepatitis is the most common cause of hepatitis in the world, including hepatitis A, B, and C, but they have been ruled out in recent outbreaks.
The types of hepatitis seen in this vaccine are not covered by the hepatitis vaccine children receive, according to Dr. Jennifer Ashton, ABC News’ chief medical correspondent.
“None of these hepatitis cases are (covered by the vaccine), so this is really confusing public health officials at this point,“said Ashton on Wednesday.
