Term of office of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan will expire on October 16, 2022. The position left by Anies will be filled by the state civil apparatus (ASN) chosen by the President Joko Widodo.
There will be no DKI Jakarta Pilkada this year because the Pilkada Law stipulates that all regional head elections will be held simultaneously in November 2024. To fill vacancies, the central government appoints an acting regional head.
“The interior minister proposed to the president. Then, the president chose one of the three names, then issued a presidential decree on the appointment of the person concerned as acting governor,” said regional autonomy expert Djohermansyah Djohan to CNNIndonesia.com, 22 September 2021.
This provision is regulated in Article 201 of the Regional Election Law. Acting governors, including Anies’ replacement, are ASNs who hold positions of middle high leadership or equivalent to echelon I.
The acting governors will lead the provincial government until a new governor is elected through the 2024 Simultaneous Pilkada. Their term of office is one year and can be extended for another year.
Previously, Anies Baswedan had led DKI Jakarta since October 16, 2017. At that time, Anies and Sandiaga Uno defeated incumbent candidates Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok and Djarot Saiful Hidayat in the 2017 Pilkada.
Sandiaga only lasted until the end of 2018. He decided to resign because he was running for vice president. The position of deputy governor will be filled by Ahmad Riza Patria in 2020.
As for the candidate for governor of DKI version of the 2024 General Election, the political map of the candidates to be carried is still fluid. The coalition between political parties is still being tested.
The Gerindra Party, the supporter, Anies, confirmed that he had not yet decided on the candidate for the successor to the Governor of DKI Jakarta.
The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party DPP, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, said that the statement by the advisor to the Gerindra faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, M Taufik, who called Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria and several other politicians as candidates for Anies’ successor, was not the party’s official position.
“That then the discourses are okay, but it cannot be considered as an official statement from the party,” Dasco told reporters at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday (4/1).
He explained that there are two parties who are authorized to submit official party statements regarding the candidate for Governor of DKI that will be carried by Gerindra in 2024, namely DPP Gerindra and DPD Gerindra DKI.
