Experts reject that the three Valencian volcanoes can be reactivated: “They are more than dead” | Radio Valencia | Present

The Valencian Community has had three volcanoes for a long time: one of them was the one that formed the Columbretes Islands; another is located in the municipality of Cofrentes (Valencia) and the third, the oldest (eight million years old), can be reached by metro, since it is in the town of Picassent. All of them are fossils, that is, inactive. Therefore, there is no risk that they will revive and produce a catastrophe like the one that is being experienced these days in La Palma (Canary Islands).

This was expressed this Monday by Paco García, geodesy expert and professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, during his time at the microphones of “Hoy por Hoy. Locos por Valencia”. In this regard, he recalled that the geodynamics of the Canary Islands has nothing to do with that of the Valencian Community. “It’s a very different mechanism.” Valencian volcanoes “are more than dead.” In fact, the expert invites everyone who is curious about them to come and meet them.
