FEBEG, the Federation of Belgian Electricity and Gas Companies, also states that it is crucial for the final settlement when the VAT reduction exactly applies. For the advance invoices, the consumption is spread out over the whole year, but the volumes per month are indeed statistically taken into account in the final settlement.
In that light, opposition parties Vlaams Belang and N-VA criticize the fact that the VAT reduction for gas will come in the spring and summer. N-VA chairman Bart De Wever also points out the difference between the VAT reduction for gas on the one hand and the check for those who burn fuel oil on the other, which is 200 euros in any case. In fact, in Wallonia a lot more is heated with fuel oil than in Flanders.
The VAT reduction will be evaluated in mid-September. Whether there is an extension will depend on the height of the prices.
