jpnn.com, JAKARTA – Immunology Allergy Consultant Internal Medicine Specialist Iris Rengganis has not yet recommended the Covid-19 vaccine to be given to pregnant women.
Responding to a recent study report from Israel that found the positive impact of corona vaccination on pregnant women, Iris said, in Indonesia, this still requires further research.
“Don’t get pregnant now, because we don’t know the exact condition. When will the vaccine be repeated, we still don’t know. We still don’t know the effectiveness of the vaccine,” he said, in Jakarta, Sunday (21/3).
The Head of the Advocacy Team for the Implementation of Vaccinations as well as the spokesperson for the PB of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) said that until now there had not been a comprehensive study of the vaccines used by pregnant women.
Iris said the vaccine recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to be given to pregnant women is the influenza vaccine.
“That (influenza vaccine) is good news, but not necessarily with other vaccines, including the Covid-19 vaccine. Because this vaccine is so new, it has a short age of 12-18 months of manufacture, from the usual five to 15 years. “he said.
Influenza vaccine, said Iris, is generally given to pregnant women in a number of countries with four seasons, because the characteristics of the people there are more afraid of contracting influenza than other things.
“They all want to be vaccinated, because we imagine what the influenza season in the four seasons will be like. It looks like a pandemic becomes contagious, yes, infected pregnant women are even more complicated,” said Iris.
