Experts expect that the supply of foreign currency to the country will be on the agenda of the meeting between João Lourenço and Joe Biden – Jornal OPaís

Experts interviewed by this newspaper, regarding the meeting that President João Lourenço holds today, Thursday, 30, with his American counterpart, Joe Biden, in the Oval Office, suggest, although it is not on the announced agenda, that the two present dedicate space to talk about the supply of dollars to Angola, but advise avoiding past mistakes

The presidential duo, according to the program to which this newspaper had access, will discuss the steps to deepen bilateral cooperation in terms of trade, investment, climate and energy, as well as the development of the partnership for global infrastructure and investments in the President Biden for the Lobito Corridor.

In relation to the Lobito Corridor, the USA has already injected 200 million dollars, part of the 500 million of the consortium’s global investment. As the North American President recently highlighted, the financial package goes beyond the amounts currently invested. Experts and CFB management consulted by this newspaper associate this interest with strengthening the strategic position in Africa, in addition to the fact that transporting ore from the DRC to Angola is a very profitable business. “Look, the Lobito Atlântic Railway consortium will profit from the ore.

I believe that in a few years the consortium will see a return on its investment”, said a CFB source, anonymously. Regarding the currency issue, international law specialist, Jair Sambo, said that there is no one capable of solving the problem other than the United States of America itself. In fact, he maintains, that’s where it all started.

“It is really only the United States that can solve this problem, and there are great expectations”, considers the expert. Jair Sambo emphasizes what he calls President João Lourenço’s good diplomacy, associated, as he said, with the fight against corruption. Sambo sees this strategy as the means by which Angola will have drawn attention to the world, but does not leave out the role played by Angola in the southern region of the continent.
